Chain Pins

A leaf chain assembly's chain pins, often referred to as a clevis pin, is an essential part. Galaxy Chains take great care in producing these pins to guarantee its effectiveness and endurance. Because our Chain Pins are made of a specially produced alloy steel that is heat treated to increase surface hardness and maintain its malleability to withstand repeated loads, they are a dependable and high-quality component of our leaf chain assemblies. The pin is centrally polished to achieve a smooth surface finish and tight tolerance on its diameter.

We firmly believe that the strongest possible connection in a leaf chain assembly is achieved when the chain terminates on the inner links, fits internally to the leaf chain anchor, and is held securely in place by a chain pins. This technique produces a strong and dependable connection by guaranteeing the highest tensile strength and the greatest number of shear faces. On the other hand, putting Chain Pins on a leaf chain's outside links might cause major problems with weight carrying and safety. The particular leaf chain that the chain pin is anchoring determines its diameter, while the chain anchor's design determines its length. To accommodate various leaf chain types, FB produces a broad range of chain pins sizes and styles. Our standard offering includes three main types of leaf chain pins and connecting links. After the diameter, the most critical dimension is what we refer to as the "grip" - on a Chain Pins with two split pin holes, this refers to the distance from the inside of one split pin hole to the inside of the other.

We offer three main types of chain pins to suit various application requirements:

Type B Leaf Chain Pin:

The "Type B" pin is the one we utilize the most frequently. It has two holes on either end that are intended to hold cotter pins or split pins. Type B pins are the most cost-effective to manufacture and allow for removal from both sides. However, they can be slightly more awkward to assemble on the machine compared to other options.

Type A Leaf Chain Pin:

Often referred to as a "top hat pin", we designate this variant as the "Type A". It has a single hole at one end for a split pin or cotter pin, and a head larger than the pin diameter. While the manufacturing process can be more expensive due to the requirement of plunge grinding, Type A pins offer the advantage of being removable from only one side. Applications with limited lateral space or worries about the pin snagging on other components may find this design helpful.

Type C Leaf Chain Pin:

We refer to this design as the "Type C". It incorporates two circlip grooves at each end, making it a convenient choice when speed of assembly is crucial, lateral space is limited, or there are worries about the pin catching on other components. The circlip grooves allow for quick and secure installation using circlips.

These pin kinds all have distinct functions and meet the particular needs of the applications we work with. With your project's requirements and limitations in mind, our knowledgeable staff can assist you in selecting the best choice.
